YYYYAYYYY!!!!! i'm back to post in this blog ever since i last tagged on... 12 Sep'09? haha. eh ppl, regarding the sectionals on wednesday, i can tell you straight off that it is TOTALLY up to you whether you want to participate in it or not. the reason why we came up with this idea is so much so that we (the seniors) could set some time aside, out of band practice, to teach and guide all of you further.

HOWEVER, the problem now is that i don't see everybody PARTICIPATING in this sectional. tough i know that some of you have events after school. but to those who have nothing on on wednesday afternoon; this sectional might seem unimportant or maybe a waste of your precious time to some of you. there are many reasons why we planned to have sectionals.

1. the playing skills of the section is not really up to the band's current standard YET. to be honest, i do not need all of you to be REALLY good. i just want all of you to DO YOUR BEST. yes, i can see some of you working diligently to improve yourself. however, only SOME. always remember, the band's standard is not based on the best player in the band but the WEAKEST. the same concept, i DO NOT NEED all of you to be the best, just don't be the weakest. i know and i can see that all of you have the potential in clarinet. i believe that if all of you are willing to just set aside some time, be it 10 minutes or 20 minutes on your clarinet, all of you should be able to have some standard in the band.

2. the bonding of the section is NOT STRONG enough. i admit it myself, i actually do not communicate much with all of you ever since all of you came in when you are in sec 1. however, i am now trying to change this fact, so do all of you. i can see that the bonds between the sec 3s and 2s are getting thinner. if this continues on, i can guarantee that the coming sec 1s would not be very much bonded too. please, i wish all of you could close up whatever gaps that is keeping all of you apart as soon as possible. if all of you ever need a clarinet outing or any similar requests, please inform me or anyone who can organize one for you, okay? MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST BOND!!!!!

3. some of you told me that all of you could not set aside time at home for you to practice your instruments or could not find a proper place for you to practice as it might disturb you neighbours blah blah blah and thus, could not practice properly. hence, we are giving you the chance to stay in school and practice. the school always have the best facilities you will ever need; you could play as loud and confident in the bandroom without having to disturb your neighbours or whatsoever.

i am neither trying to advertise the sectionals nor am i mocking all of you. i just want to tell all of you the reasons of having sectionals on wednesday and not wasting your quality time. to conclude, i wish all of you could turn up on the sectionals for better reasons. CHEERS !

ok... now the casual post. YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! how did all of you find january?!?! man... sec 2 and sec 3 good lor. i second week of january got 1 whole week full of scheduled-tests. get back test that time also dont need see the results already. and hor, january passed by too fast le bah! now febuary already. time flies sia... soon sec 4s going to take our 'o' levels already. then we need to ps all of you around june-july. dun miss us by then hor ;D ONE MORE REQUEST BEFORE I END THE POST. UPDATTTEEEE THE BLOG LEH!!! (though i do not do that often). all of you so free come update lar.. then won't feel as empty and bored in here. okok? must at least tag once per day hor. like what most ppl say "A TAG A DAY, KEEPS THE BOREDOM AWAY!".

Please don't abandon your studies okay? Try to manage time WELL :]

Don't be shy! Hope all of you can come for all band practices regularly!
Including Saturday practices! But if you're busy then nevermind :D no forcing.
Try to note down all the dynamics and everything in the score, and practice them whenever you can , to avoid you from forgetting it :]
Please note whatever things on your score as it helps okay?
Erm , Mr How say by now shouldn't have any wrong notes , so if you all have any questions on some notes please ASK ASK ASK ASK ASK ASK ASK ASK ASK ASK ASK any of the clarinetist! Or refer to the fingering chart!
One more thing , please keep your clarinets in good condition!
For polishing cloth can lend from Huiting , our Drum Major :DD or you can buy one!
REMEMBER TO CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN CLARINET AFTER BLOWING!
Polish your clarinet the bell there , the shiny parts , cos' it will rust if you don't polish.
Take cotton buds to clean the gaps in between the clarinet keys, gently :]

to add on to what edwin have mentioned,

as an assisstant section leader, as a senior, as i was a recruit once,

i think th main point of joining band is for th fun, and to enjoy.

Fine, maybe at th start, you join th band for other reasons like, for friends, or for girls&&boys ... etc. but since you choose to remain in band, th main purpose is to enjoy, and share your happiness with others through th music you play.

But if you guys play softly, how can th message be sent?

seriously, i feel v sad..because all of us(seniors, conductors, teachers) know that you people out there can make it. but you arent doing what you can do.. you aint doing youre best.

Ok, how should I start… People, I hope that most of you had received my message yesterday. Never mind, I shall repeat myself again. Guys, do you all understand why were we scolded last practice? All of you in the section are able to play. However, I don’t see most of you trying to get into a higher level. Let me tell you guys, the two pieces that we’re practicing now aren’t that difficult. It is YOU who makes it difficult. Do all of you know why your seniors are practicing so hard for? Next year, it is our last chance to perform in the indoor SYF. There is only one chance so, “do it once, do It well”. People, you are not the weakest player in band. I told all of you already, ALL OF YOU can play well. It is only your choice to play well and IMPROVE or to just stay stagnant or even worst, deprove. If all of you have problem finding a place to practice, you can always tell any of the seniors so that we can arrange it. Guys, it really hurts to know how someone whom does not work hard will pull down everyone in the section in the band and to those whom really practiced hard.

More importantly, WE are the biggest section yet the weakest BONDING section. I do not understand how difficult it is to BOND with each other. People, just TALK. Talking is the easiest way to bond. Just blab out whatever you are thinking, we do not mind. At most we will just quiet you down. Of course, choose the right time to talk. ;D To bond is also to PARTICIPATE. Participation is very important. The seniors are trying very hard to organize events for all of you to participate. Therefore, if you can participate, I doubt that you will feel more bonded together as a section. People, I say again practice hard, for the better sake and for the people around who are also working hard. Spend some time reflecting yourself towards the section and the band. ;D

By the way, here are some tips for you ;D As a band member, we are playing MUSIC. Most of us here are just playing NOTES and therefore, SOUND comes out. The reason why you guys kept losing counts is because you had not been listening to the piece ENOUGH. LISTENING is superduperextremely important. When LISTENING to a piece, you must not only listen just to your own instrument, but other sections too. Another important factor is to ENJOY the music you're playing. FEEL the music. Follow the flow of the music. Next, CUE-ING. Cue-ing is also another essential thing. Cue-ing makes the sound comes out as A SECTION, not an individual. OFF BEATS- easy, just JERK on the on beat. You will just naturally come in on the off beat. There's still many many more to learn and if you need help in any of these, feel free to ask for help. I'm sure we will help you in any way. :DD

when school reopens, we'll be having sectionals on either wednesday or friday.

and if its possible, we might even have sectionals on saturday.

If it doesnt help, we'll have to increase th days ..

therefore, we hope that you'll work harder and try not to get scolded anymore.

Remember,

**cue each other at th start of a song, after `resting, and off beats,

in order to breathe together && come in at th same time.

**everytime there's a rest, 2bars before it's your turn to start playing, take your instrument up.

**dont only play NOTES.. play MUSIC.
